New Delhi, INDIA, (GaeaTimes.com)- A case involving the murder of model Jessica Lal, who was shot dead at a bar in New Delhi in the year 1999, had been pending in court until yesterday. The Supreme Court announced that it will give its verdict today on, Manu Sharma, the prime accused in the case. And the justice has been delivered after a very long span of 11 years. The Supreme Court finds Manu Sharma guilty and will not go against the earlier decision taken by the Delhi High Court.
Manu Sharma was found guilty and was awarded the life sentence by the Delhi High Court, a charge that was challenged by Ram Jethmalani, the senior counsel who is representing Manu Sharma in the case. The senior advocate said that his client was being framed and that the decision of lifetime imprisonment which was conferred on him was also fixed from before. Although Gopal Subramaniam, representing the Delhi government in the case, claimed that there was enough evidence in his hands to prove that Manu Sharma was guilty of killing Jessica Lal, Ram Jethmalani refused to move from his ground saying that the charge was “perverse”.
Model and socialite Jessica Lal was killed by a gun shot at the Tamarind Court Cafe restaurant, a place owned by socialite and friend of Jessica Lal, Bina Ramani, in the month of April in 1999. Witnesses to the incident claimed that it was Manu Sharma who had fired at Jessica Lal. Apart from Manu Sharma, two others Vikas Yadav and Amarjeet Singh Gill, were also accused in the case under charges of destroying important evidence needed in the investigation of the case.
This is surely NOT a case of “Justice Delayed Is justice Denied”. This is surely an achievement for Jessica Lal’s family who have been waiting this long.
