FRANKFURT (GaeaTimes.com)- Lufthansa Airlines has announced the cancellation of all its flights originating from India and bound for Frankfurt. The decision has been taken to prevent any unwanted accidents which may have occurred as a result of the volcanic eruptions in Iceland. The German airline announced today that the ash cloud formed from the volcanic eruptions in Iceland has caused disruptions in its flight schedules. Therefore Lufthansa will cancel all its flights to Europe at least till 12 o’clock GMT Sunday.
In the month of March this year Lufthansa had launched a business-cum-economy jet service from Pune in India to Frankfurt, its main air hub. The 92 seater jet will however not operate till April 25th of this month in order to provide air space to the Boeing 737 which operates in this route, a spokesman of the Lufthansa Airlines confirmed today. Apart from India these Lufthansa services have also been canceled from Bahrain.
The volcanic ash has affected not only flight schedules of the Lufthansa Airlines but of other air services as well. The ash cloud cover may soon be shifting towards the southeast of Iceland, making it even more dangerous for airplanes to operate in the area. Keeping this fact in mind the Lufthansa Airlines have decided to stall air services from India to Frankfurt today.
Even yesterday 10 flights of the Lufthansa Airlines had continued operations at very low altitudes between Munich to Frankfurt. All the flights had been rerouted to the city of Frankfurt as its airport was the last to shut down in Germany. However today the airlines is not prepared to take any further risk.
