MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Iceland volcano which started erupting ash and fumes affecting the entire European air traffic is also creating ripple effects in Asian countries including India. The Airlines in India like Jet Airways, Air India and Kingfisher airlines had to cancel 70 international outbound flights destined for European countries. The Jet Airways spokespersons said that they have decided to suspend entire European outbound flights. Jet Airways also had to cancel some of its flights destined for the USA as most of these flights have a stopover in European countries.
Needless to say the random flight cancellations by Jet Airways and other airlines in India is having a toll on the customers. The NRI passengers are suffering in the UK and other European countries as major airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and Brussels have suspended their operations. Similarly, the foreigners who are in India are pondering about cancelling their tickets to European destinations. However, a section of passengers who need to reach their destinations are trying to find alternative air routes desperately. Even the web sites of the airlines do not indicate that things will change in the near future.
What is making things difficult for both the airlines and the passengers is the fact that different Indian airlines follow different air routes for international destinations. Hence some airlines are still offering flights to these destinations while others are not doing so. Jet Airways yesterday encountered a new problem when 50 passengers of a canceled London flight demanded priority booking. The passengers created a ruckus saying the airline staff did not apt heed to their queries.
