VARANASI - Nearly fifty shops were gutted in a major fire at a wholesale fruit market in Varanasi on Tuesday.

The cause of the fire at the Pahadia fruit market was due to short circuit.

“Although the market was closed, some trading was on and some traders were unloading their goods. We have commenced investigation to ascertain the exact cause and also assess overall losses and other damages,” said D K Thakur, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Varanasi.

There were no reports of any human casualty in the fire. (ANI)
