Summary Box: Midwest Airlines becoming Frontier

DEPARTING SOON: The owner of Midwest and Frontier airlines will use the Frontier name for both operations.

WHY NOT MIDWEST? The parent company, Republic Airways, says more travelers associate the Frontier name with low fares. Midwest was based in Milwaukee, where competition has heated up with Southwest Airlines and AirTran.

WHAT’S NEXT: Republic says it will take until October 2011 to get the Frontier name painted on all the former Midwest planes.
