Pulitzer Prize Winners Announced

COLUMBIA (GaeaTimes.com)- On Monday, the prestigious Pulitzer Prize winners in the field of journalism, literature and music were declared. The award which is considered as one of the greatest of its kinds came up with some surprises. The categories of the Pulitzer Prize is no more restricted for print or television journalism and had extended its range for online journalism which has come as a new trend. The investigative reporting category prize and animated cartoon prize went to an organization and a person who have used the alternate Web media.
The “Herald Courier” received the Public Service Pulitzer Prize this year. Daniel Gilbert, reporter of the “Herald Courier” went on to run an eight-part series regarding the mismanagement of natural gas royalties in southwestern Virginia. The Pulitzer Prize for the Breaking News Reporting went to the staff of “The Seattle Times” who used different and innovative media sources like social networking websites along with traditional news reporting technique to bring the incident of the shooting of the four police officers in a cafe and the later 40 hours search for the shooter. The prize for the Explanatory Reporting went to the team of “The New York Times” while that of Local Reporting went to Raquel Rutledge of the “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel”.
While announcing the Pulitzer Prize for the investigative reporting, administrator of the prizes, Sig Gissler asserted that the media will see an increase in the collaboration of different media sources and newsrooms in future as well. The Pulitzer Prize’s recognition, according to the editor of the “Herald Courier,” enables the newspapers to survive in some form or the other.
