Chinese Army to recruit online to attract college graduates

BEIJING - The China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Education Ministry is planning to open an online recruitment service for the first time to attract college graduates this year.

The PLA plans to recruit some 150,000 graduates this year.

China announced a series of preferential policies to encourage more young people with higher education to serve in the Army, including a one-off payment of up to 24,000 yuan for the student-turned soldiers, Xinhua news agency reports.

According to statistics, 130,000 graduates applied to join the Army in 2009, and over 100,000 were recruited.

The Government has also extended the age limit for those with a bachelor degree to 24.

The PLA recruits usually recruits men aged between 18 and 20 and women aged 18 or 19. (ANI)
