NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- A new chapter was written in the history of India’s urban communication today as a new line was inaugurated in the expanding network of Delhi Metro railway. The first metro standard gauge line covers some of the most densely populated regions of New Delhi. The Green Line as it is alternatively referred to, will cover approximately a 15.1 km corridor. The Inderlok-Mundka Metro link will make commuting easier for the residents of the north west and western parts of Delhi. The inauguration event was attended by Sheila Dikshit, the chief minister of Delhi and S Jaipal Reddy, the Union Urban Development Minister.
The Inderlok-Mundka Metro link will be thrown open to public from tomorrow. The Chief Minister flagged off a spanking standard gauge metro train from the Inderlok metro station. The other lines of the DMRC are broad gauge. The event was also attended by all the major media representatives. There will be 14 stations along the new route, the DMRC officials have reportedly revealed. During the peak hours, DMRC will ply trains at the interval of 6 minutes, according to metro railway sources.
The Metro network in Delhi has expanded rapidly since its expansion unlike the Kolkata Metro. The metro rakes will cover the Inderlok-Mundka Metro route in less than half an hour, as the estimates have suggested. Twenty-one rakes of DMRC will ply along the route as of now. In the near future, DMRC has plans to connect the outskirts of Delhi with the heart of the capital by means of its network.
