Utkal Divas Celebrated Today

ORISSA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the president of India and Dr Monmohan Singh, the Prime minister of the nation addressed the residents of Orissa on Utkal Divas, which is also celebrated as Orissa Day. Today marks the 74th anniversary of the day on which the state came into existence. The president said in her speech that the state is replete with huge amounts of natural resources. She also said that in the coming days the state will prosper in the field of Industrial development. Prime Minister Dr Monmohan Singh, said in his speech that Orissa has a great cultural heritage that can hardly be matched by any other state. He also expressed his view that in the next decade the state will prosper rapidly and emerge as one of the most prosperous states of the country.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik also greeted the residents of the state on Utkal Divas and wished them all the best for the coming days. He is supposed to inaugurate a function today to celebrate the occasion today. It became a separate state on the basis of linguistics under the British rule in 1936. The state is known for some of the most reputed aesthetic works of art and sculpture existing in India.
The residents of the state who are presently in other parts of the country are also celebrating Utkal Divas in their own ways. The Gandhinagar Odiya Samaj is arranging a cultural program for the people who stay in Gandhinagar but have an Odissi origin. It will be attended by the governor of Gujarat.
