Sharad Pawar leaves for Moscow to attend BRIC Agriculture Ministers’ meet

NEW DELHI - Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday left for Moscow to attend Brazil, Russia, India, China (BRIC) Agriculture Ministers meeting slated to be held between March 25 and 27.
Pawar is heading a high level Indian delegation that will take part in the deliberations.
During his visit Pawar will also be meeting Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Victor Zubkov and will be holding bilateral discussion with his Russian, Brazilian and Chinese counterparts during the visit.
He will also have interaction with representatives of the Russian industry.
During the meeting, the Agriculture Ministers of BRIC countries will attempt explore the possibilities of cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
Following the meeting a declaration will be issued.
The outcome of the meeting would be further reported to the BRIC Summit being held in Brasilia on April 16 that will be attended by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The BRIC countries together command 25.9 percent of total geographic area, 40 percent of global population, and 22 percent of global GDP (PPP).
The clout of the economies, individually, is also considerable.
The Chinese economy is the world’s fourth largest with GDP of 3.2 trillion dollars, while Russia, Brazil and India have a GDP of over a trillion dollars each.(ANI)
