CAREER: Founded The Hampton Co., a provider of retirement plan services to corporations, in 1983 at age 22. Joined Schwab when it acquired Hampton in 1995. Served in numerous leadership positions at the company before being appointed president and chief operating officer in February 2007. Succeeded founder Charles R. Schwab as chief executive officer in October 2008, when he also was named to the Schwab board of directors.
FAMILY: Wife, Teri, and five children from age 4 to 20.
