Vinda Karandikar Passes Away

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Renowned Marathi writer Govind Vinayak Karandikar, who was popularly known as Vinda Karandikar passed away this morning at a Mumbai hospital. The much acclaimed Marathi litterateur, who had been honored with a Jnanpith Award for his illustrious literary career, who 92 years old at the time of his death.

The news of the unfortunate demise of Vinda Karandikar has been confirmed by his son Uday Karandikar, who revealed to the media that the iconic writer breathed his last at the Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra after suffering from a brief illness. Family sources have also stated that the mortal remains of Vinda Karandikar would be kept in his Bandra residence in order to enable all his fans to pay homage to their much loved writer. Moreover, the late litterateur’ son also added that Vinda Karandikar’s body would be offered to J.J. Hospital as he had wished to do in his will.

Meanwhile, Vinda Karandikar’s death has come as a rude shock to all his fans who have read his wide ranging short stories, essays as well as a variety of other commendable literary creations. The eminent writer, who was known for his experimental literary style, would be remembered for his unprecedented contribution to Marathi literature.

Vinda Karandikar’s demise also brings back memories of him being conferred the Jnanpith Award in 2003, when the then President APJ Abdul Kalam had described his life as an example of extraordinary achievement which has been realized due to his unending exploration for aesthetic perfection. Vinda Karandikar’s demise has surely left an unending void in the world of Marathi literature.
