Kochi on high alert following terror attack warning

KOCHI - Following a high alert issued by the Union Home Ministry on Saturday, the Kochi Police made elaborate security arrangements at major installations and public places in the city.

Quick action teams and specially trained commandos were deployed at various places in the city.

According to the City Police Commissioner, security has been beefed up at probable public gathering points of the Jew Street and Synagogue at Mattancherry, Fort Kochi and other places.

Meanwhile, the state Home Department has asked the Kochi Police to keep a high surveillance at all points leading to the city.

Police officials have been asked to check all vehicles and to report even a small incident happening to higher officers.

The State Government has also asked the Navy and the Coast Guard to assist in monitoring activities in deep sea and along coastal belt.

Accordingly, the Navy and Coast Guard authorities have taken necessary steps to cover the sea route.

The movement of people in and around the international and domestic airports, railway station, bus terminals and naval base have been put under observation.
