Martyr Indian Army captain cremated with full military honors

NEW DELHI - The mortal remains of Captain Davinder Singh Jass of the Indian Army, who died fighting militants at Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir, was on Thursday cremated in the national capital with full military honours.

Captain Jass was killed along with two other soldiers during a prolonged encounter with militants in Sopore town on February 23.

The encounter took place after the security forces received information that some militants, including a top commander of Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, were hiding in the area.

Family members and friends of Jass, who was to join them at his home in Ghaziabad on the outskirts of Delhi for the festival of Holi, were present at the time of the cremation.

Heads were held high as tears poured out from the eyes of friends and relatives while paying their last respects to the young Martyr.

“The officer as an individual, at such a young age was responsible for leading his men in all the operations which were conducted. He was independently leading operations and has shown ure bravery. And the kind of dedication and commitment he has shown towards the armed forces was evident in all his action,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vikas Singh. (ANI)
