TRAI issues simplified format for cable operators

NEW DELHI - The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday issued a simplified version of the format for submitting information by small cable operators about their operational and financial status.
According to TRAI the forms will be available in different Indian languages.
The details of the operator’s operational and financial status required for exercise of tariff issues.
The TRAI has requested all cable operators who have less than 500 subscribers to fill up this format and submit the same through post/fax/e-mail by February 28.
The TRAI’s decision came in accordance with the Supreme Court’s verdict.
In January, the apex court had directed the TRAU that this exercise should be completed by June 2010.
It may be recalled that the Court had directed all the stakeholders to cooperate with TRAI in this exercise.
Accordingly, TRAI had requested all the stakeholders to complete the submission of information about their financial and operational figures in the prescribed formats by February end.

TRAI has received representations from some quarters indicating that some small cable operators may not have access to computers and they may be unable to understand the format fully.
To facilitate the small cable operators,a simplified version of the format has been issued. (ANI)
