Pak will seek civil nuke pact with US to counter Indian weapons: Haqqani

WASHINGTON - Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani, has said that his country’s government will continue to pursue efforts for securing a civilian nuclear deal with the US to counter massive defence spending by India.
The ambassador said this in a report published in The Washington Times.
“India is our main concern, as it is buying weapons worth 100 billion dollars from five countries, including China, and to balance it our relations with the US are very significant,” the Daily Times quoted Haqqani, as saying.
“We have to largely depend upon the US for our defence-related matters,” added the ambassador, who is in Pakistan for routine consultations with political leaders,” he added.
Pakistan, Haqqani said, cannot trust India to keep peace in the region.
“Talks between Pakistan and the US for cooperation on atomic energy programs are under way,” the envoy said. (ANI)
