WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com)- Today is February 15, the Presidents Day 2010. In the United States on the 3rd Monday of February, federal holiday is celebrated to mark the birthday of the first President of US,George Washington. It is commonly referred to as Presidents Day which is sometimes spelled as Presidents’ Day or President’s Day. According to some, the term “Presidents Day” is technically wrong. Some say the federal holiday should actually be called “Washington’s Birthday.”
According to the Gregorian calender, the first president of United States of America- George Washington’s birth date was February 22, 1732. The Julian calendar has the firstPresident’s birthday on February 11. The former president George Washington is one of the most revered persons in the history of United States.
Reports indicate that in the earlier years, the Presidents Day was celebrated not only to celebrate the birth of the revered former president George Washington, it was more than that. It was sort of celebrating what we liked about the former President. It was kind of re-living the ideals of the former president and honoring him.
C.L. Arbelbide, the presidential historian wrote in the National Archives publication “Prologue,” in 2004, that different generations found “significant ways to periodically resurrect his memory.” The Washington Monument’s cornerstone was build in 1848 in order to pay tribute to the former President. George Washington is often referred to as “the father of the nation,” for his contribution to the formation of the United States. The Presidents day 2010 is celebrated in order to pay tribute to the legend. Some states of United States observe it as a holiday.
