PANJIM - The re-constituted Freedom Fighters Committee of the Union Home Ministry held its first meeting here recently under the chairmanship of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Makan.

It was for the first time that the meeting of the Committee was held outside Delhi with the specific aim of holding meetings at places actively associated with freedom fighters and freedom movement.

Eminent freedom fighters from every region of the country and categories participated in the meeting.

The meeting deliberated upon and took decisions regarding various issues concerning freedom fighters - their concerns and streamlining of processes associated with such concerns.

To ensure that the efforts of the Centre are directed towards ensuring that only genuine freedom fighters get the Central Samman Pension and the facilities being provided to them are qualitatively improved, the Government will ensure that fake claimants do not get undue benefits.

In this regard, the meeting was informed that an order has been issued that henceforth pension will not be sanctioned to such persons whose age at the time of participation in the freedom struggle was less than 15 years. (ANI)
