Chinese sent 784.04 billion SMSs in 2009!

NEW DELHI - China witnessed an increase of 8.4 percent in the number of short messages sent by the people in 2009, which amounted to 784.04 billion, or 2.1 billion per day on average.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology report, subscribers of China Mobile, the country’s leading mobile carrier, sent 86 percent of these messages, reports the Beijing Times.

However, short messages sent by wireless phones dropped 45.6 percent year-on-year to 12.74 billion due to the withdrawal of Xiaolingtong, or personal handphone system, reports the China Daily.

The report further claimed the number of mobile phones have increased 10.2 percent year-on-year to 771.3 billion. (ANI)
