WASHINGTON - : US counter-terrorism officials have confirmed that Taliban chieftain Hakeemullah Mehsud is dead.

American media quoted senior US intelligence officials, as saying that Hakimullah was killed by a missile hit in North Waziristan.

Fox News said, this is the ’strongest signal’ yet from Washington about Hakimullah’s fate.

A CNN report said that wanted Afghan Taliban commander Sirajuddin Haqqani might have escaped one of the heaviest US drone attacks in North Waziristan earlier this week.

“Siraj was in the area, but had left moments before the strike,” the report quoted a Haqqani group commander, as saying.

It is pertinent to mention here that neither Islamabad nor Washington has officially confirmed Hakimullah’s death so far. (ANI)
