Siliguri hosts mass marriage ceremony for 34 couples

SILIGURI - At least thirty four couples recently tied the nuptial knot at a mass marriage ceremony here.
Organised by the Guruji Pranami Mission Trust, the main objective of the event was to provide an opportunity to economically backward sections of society.
The trust also offered wedding costumes to the couples, who hailed from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, the Doars regions and other tribal belts.
“Our financial condition is not very good and we heard about this mass marriage programme being held here. So, two days before we eloped, and got married here today,” said Suren Thapa, one of the groom.
Another groom Prabhat Pradhan from Darjeeling Hills expressed happiness after tying knot with his fianci.
“For the first time in my life, I heard about mass marriage. I am feeling good now. Here around 34 couples of all faith got married under one roof, and which for me, is something extraordinary. I am feeling good after getting married here.” Pradhan added.
Mass marriages are becoming very popular, especially among the economically backward sections of Indian society. (ANI)
