Kapil Sibal asks parents not to put pressure on children

NEW DELHI - Union Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal said here on Monday that education reforms could not be successfully implemented until parents allowed their children to pursue their dreams.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines of an education seminar here Sibal said the Central Government wants to implement an education system in which students can pursue their goals.
“There is a need to change the thinking of the society. Parents should let their wards decide their future,” Sibal said.
“They should not force their aspirations on them. Students are the most important pillars of the education system. We want to establish a system where students can fulfill their dreams,” he added.
The HRD Ministry is taking a series of steps to reform education system in India and to reduce pressure on the children.
In 2009, HRD Ministry announced that there would be no Board Examinations for the tenth standard students of schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the academic year of 2011.
Board examinations would be conducted for 2010 but a grading system would be introduced along with the usual systems of assigning marks to the students as per their answer sheets.
The government is also mulling on extending the system for standard 12. (ANI)
