NEW DELHI - The body of 25-year-old Ranjodh Singh, an Indian citizen stabbed to death in Sydney, Australia, was flown to New Delhi on Thursday.

The partially burnt body of Ranjodh was found on December 29 on a rural road southwest of Sydney.

An autopsy had revealed that he had been bound, stabbed multiple times and had his throat slashed before being set alight while still alive.

Ranjodh’s brother Satnam Singh said that a third person has been arrested by the Australian Police after the detention of an Indian couple on Thursday.

“Three people have been arrested in Australia for the murder. We are asking the Indian government to ask the Australian government to punish them,” Satnam said.

Ranjodh’s body will be taken to his native place Nabha in Punjab for performance of last rites.

Ties between New Delhi and Canberra have been strained due to spate of violent attacks on Indian nationals in Australia, and subsequent media coverage of the events in India.

The Government of India had earlier conveyed its disappointment to Australia over the attacks on Indians and had asked the authorities to do more to prevent such incidents.

“We are disappointed at the attacks that are still continuing. Clearly more needs to be done,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vishnu Prakash had said. (ANI)
