GURGAON, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The city of Gurgaon is the latest in India to have got the privilege of availing the metro. On Friday, Jan 29, the Delhi metro went on its trial run in Gurgaon. The Chief Minister of the state of Haryana, Bhoopinder Singh Hooda, flagged off the trail run, amidst thousands of spectators who had assembled to watch this event that is momentous for the city. The Gurgaon metro, which is an extension of the Delhi metro, would run from Gurgaon to Qutb Minar.
The Gurgaon metro trial run took off from the HUDA City Center and ended in the Guru Dronacharya station. Prior to the flagging off of the trial run, the Chief of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, E. Sreedharan, commented that the Gurgaon metro would take four months to become fully operational, as opposed to the usual one month after the trail run. As reason for the delay, he states that some final constructions are still underway on the station at Chhattarpur. The metro would be fully open after the work is completed and clearance is received from the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
The reports from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation suggest that the Gurgaon metro would be completely open for public avail by June in this year. It would be functional in two parts: by the end of March in this year, the Gurgaon to Qutb Minar leg would be operational, while by June the remaining part, that is the Qutb Minar to Central Secretariat part would begin to function. The total route of the Gurgaon metro would be covering the area from Jahangirpuri to Gurgaon.
