NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The national anthem of India composed by Rabindranath Tagore evokes a sense of patriotism. It eulogizes the history, traditions, the vast expanse of the country and achievements of its people. The anthem views our country as the motherland and a Goddess. It talks about united India where people live happily together discarding all differences. On this occasion of Republic Day, let us remember the achievements of our national heroes who freed our motherland from inhuman treatment and humiliation of 200 years.

The struggle of the heroes be it through violence or non-violence, made sure that the British rulers left India. So many people gave away their lives, so many lost their brother, father or mother in the struggle. The moderates and extremist along with so many other independent fighters brought back India’s prestige after much bloodshed.

While some fought with arms, others chose a peaceful way of convincing the British masters. Others still believed that “pen is mightier than the sword.” Rabindranath Tagore fought with his pen. He gave up the prestigious “Knighthood” following the Jalianwalabugh incident as a mark of protest. His composition “Jana Gana Mana” was made the national anthem of India. The lyrics to this date manages to evoke the strong feelings of patriotism in every Indians:

Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, Jaya He
Bharata Bhagya Vidhata
Punjab Sindhu Gujarata Maratha
Dravida Utkala Banga (places in India)
Vindhya Himachala Yamuna Ganga
Uchchhala Jaladhi Taranga
Tava Shubha Name Jage
Taba Shubha Ashisha Mage
Gahe Taba Jaya gaatha
Jana Gana Mangaladayaka Jaya He
Bharata Bhaagya Vidhata
Jaya He ! Jaya He ! Jaya He !
Jaya, Jaya, Jaya, Jaya He

This Republic day presents to us once more the opportunity of remembering the heroes of the independence struggle as well as take pride in our national anthem.
