Padma Shree Awards 2010 Nominees List Released

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The nominations for the Padma Shree Awards have been released on Monday, Jan 25, 2010. Like every other time, the list features the names of the who’s who from different fields. The awards go to eminent personalities from the fields of science, social service, public life, the arts, education, literature, sports and industry. In the entertainment category, actress Rekha and Zohra Sehgal and actors Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan have been nominated.

In a rather scandalizing report, one of the nominees of the award is Sant Singh Chatwal, the hotel business tycoon based in the United States. Only a few days back, he had been convicted of bank fraud, and was under trail till only a few months back. This year, the UPA government has recommended him for the Padma Shree 2010 awards, making it one of the most questioned nominations. This incident once more brings to mind all the controversy that had once raged about the Padma Shree Awards nominees, which even led to the awards taking place for quite a number of years, according to the jurisdiction passed by the Apex Court.
