26 January Republic Day Parade

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- India is all set to celebrate the 61st Republic Day of the nation tomorrow on 26th January, amidst tight security. The celebration would commence in the national capital with President Pratibha Patil unfurling the national flag which would be followed by the Republic Day parade. The grand parade, which would begin from Vijay Chowk and would end at the Red fort, is considered to be the highlight of the Republic Day celebration every year. The chief guest at this year’s Republic day celebration is going to be South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.
The Republic day parade every year showcases the military strength of the nation with the Army, Air Force and the Navy participating in the event. Moreover, one of the major highlights of this year’s 26th January celebration are Indian Army’s Arjun tanks and other equipped vehicles, which would be displayed in the parade. As the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, President Pratibha Patil would be taking the salute at Rajpath.
The Republic Day parade would also include decorative floats and other colorful displays which would be representing the diverse culture of each of the states of the nation. Like every year, even this time around the magnificent pageant would conclude with flypast by Indian Air Force jets. Meanwhile, as the nation gears up to commemorate the occasion, security has been beefed up in the capital as well as in the rest of the country. Around 70,000 cops will be active in the national capital tomorrow while 15 helicopters would be taking care of the air surveillance during the Republic Day parade in order to avert any untoward incident.
