Bajaur, 21 Jan (ANI): A roadside bomb apparently targeting anti-Taliban elders killed three people and injured 22 others on Thursday in Pakistan’s Bajaur, a tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.

According to reports, the suspected militants targeted a bus in Salarzai district in Bajaur, which was carrying some tribal elders who had formed a militia to fight militants in the region.

“It was an improvised explosive device which exploded as the bus headed to the region’s main town of Khar,” The Dawn quoted Mazhar Ali, a local government official, as saying.

“One woman was killed while 22 other passengers were wounded,” he added.

Meanwhile, senior administration official Abdul Kabir said “two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.”

Two of the wounded are said to be in a critical condition.

A number of local leaders have been killed in similar attacks in Bajaur in recent months. (ANI)
