Three Chinese engineers arrested for Chhattisgarh chimney collapse

KORBA - Police arrested three Chinese engineers here on Mondaty in connection with the collapse of an under-construction chimney of Bharat Aluminum Company (Balco) that killed 45 workers on September 23 last year.
The Chinese engineers were employed by a Chinese company, Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO), which was given the contract of the 1,200 MW power project of Balco.
The arrested include project in-charge and Manager, Wu Chunnan, and two civil engineers Wang Weiquing and Liu Gaokuance.
According to Korba’s Superintendent of Police, Ratanlal Dangi, the engineers were arrested on the basis of findings of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur, which was asked to investigate the cause of the accident.
” Engineers have been arrested under sections 304, 334, 324 and 326 of IPC. As per the reports by National Institute of Technology, police is yet to arrest some more people soon,” Dangi added.
Earlier, China had expressed grave disappointment over countrywide look-out circulars (LOC) at all airports and ports of exit against 89 Chinese engineers and workmen employed at Balco. (ANI)
