LONDON - A new study has found that shoppers spent a staggering 64.2 billion pounds in London last year - more than anywhere else on the planet.

The Centre for Retail Research, who conducted the study, said the astonishing figure put the capital streets ahead of retail ’super league’ rivals Paris, Tokyo and New York, reports the Sun.

Shoppers in Tokyo forked out 61.4billion pounds last year, with 47billlion pounds in New York and just 46.6billion pounds in Paris.

Consumers spent more in London than the combined totals of Los Angeles, Milan, Rome, Madrid and Berlin.

“London is world-famous for its shopping and has now confirmed its status as the premier destination for consumers seeking the ultimate retail shopping experience,” said Chris Simpson, marketing director of price comparison site Kelkoo, which commissioned the study. (ANI)
