BIRBHUM - Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said inflation would be soon brought under control.

Speaking on the sidelines of inauguration of the 1,574th branch of United Bank here, Mukherjee said the price of vegetables and other food items would soon come down as the Central Government along with the state governments is sincerely working on the matter.

“The inflation seen in food items is not due to monetary policy but due to obstruction in demand and supply. Therefore to remove the demand supply constraint, I have written letters to chiefs of all the states. We are discussing various issues with them. I hope that with the efforts of both federal and state governments inflation would be brought under control,” said Mukherjee.

Mukherjee, however, refused to give a time line by which prices of commodities would come down, but assured relief.

During the event, Mukherjee handed out loan sanction letters and financial assistance papers to some village students. (ANI)
