BANGALORE - External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on Sunday said that the Central Government has asked the United States Government to provide information about the affected Indian students of the California-based Tri Valley University (TVU).

Addressing the media in Bangalore, Krishna said that US government should take strict action against such dubious universities and other educational providers who are perpetrating fraud on the innocent students.

Many of the Indian students’ visas have been impounded and they also face deportation scare after the Tri-Valley University was raided and shut down by the US government.

“We have asked government of United States at the highest level to provide the necessary information on the affected students as and when after the investigation it unfolds,” Krishna said.

“I would like to make a special request to the United States authorities that strict action should be taken against the promoters of such dubious universities,” he added.

The External Affairs Minister also said that the US decision of making some Indian students of the TVU wear radio collars around their ankles was unacceptable.

The radio collars will electronically monitor their movement and ensure that they do not go underground or missing.

“We demand the US government initiate severe action against those officials responsible for this inhuman act. Indian students are not criminals. The radio collars should immediately be removed,” Krishna said.

“The way some of the students were treated by the authorities is unacceptable,” he added. (ANI)
