KARACHI - The Sindh Government has extended its ban on pillion riding in Karachi by a week.

The Sindh Home Department issued a notification, saying that the pillion-riding ban had been extended till January 29 in view of the upcoming Chehlum of Imam Hussain.

It has also suspended all permits for carrying firearms till January 25, the Daily Times reports.

Last week, the provincial government had enforced a seven-day ban in the Pakistani metropolis following Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s announcement on January 16 that a “partial curfew” would be imposed in the city to carry out operations against terrorists.

“Initially the ban will be effective for one week… but it will be extended depending on the law and order situation,” Capital City Police Officer Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari was quoted, as saying. (ANI)
