Decline in food inflation not much consolation, says Mukherjee

NEW DELHI - Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said the decline in food inflation to 15.52 per cent for the week ended January 8, is not much consolation, and added that the government will continue to take steps to control rising prices.

“These are weekly fluctuation and naturally we shall have to watch the situation. Some of the vegetable prices are still high. The fact of the matter is from 16.91 per cent it hascome down to 15.52 per cent..Though it is not much consolation but declining trend is there,” said Mukherjee.

Food inflation has dropped to 15.52 per cent for the week ended January 8 from 16.91 per cent recorded in the previous week on the back of high vegetable prices. (ANI)
