BRISBANE - Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has been treated in hospital for a foot infection after he spent hours helping Brisbane residents during the ongoing flood crisis.

Rudd, whose constituency of Griffith was hit by the flood, had been a high profile volunteer as the waters rose, checking on residents whose homes were inundated and handing out supplies of anti-bacterial gel.

Wading through the dirty water up to his knees, he became one of the scores of people injured by debris washed into the Australian city by the flood, The Telegraph reports.

After suffering a small cut to his foot, which later became infected, his spokesman said Rudd was treated at Brisbane’s Mater Hospital and discharged after midnight on Friday.

Thousands of Brisbane residents have been affected by the city’s worst flood in more than 40 years.

They have been warned to be aware of the health risks posed by the water, which contains sewage and other contaminants. (ANI)
