CHANDIGARH - Winter showers since Thursday made many regions of Punjab endure biting cold.

The Meteorological Observatory at Chandigarh has predicted that the rainfall will continue for some more days.

“From yesterday onwards we have been receiving rains in the entire region. In Punjab and Haryana we are having widespread rains in many pockets. This rainfall was between one to two centimetres last week. The rains will continue toady and tomorrow also in the plains. In the Himalayan regions it may continue for couple of days,” said Surender Paul, Director, Meteorological Observatory, Chandigarh.

Paul further said the rainfall is a result of heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh.

Residents sipped hot tea and lit bonfires to beat the chill.

Meanwhile, due to the cascading effect of the climatic conditions in the Himalayan region, New Delhi and other parts of the northern Indian plains have also registered a steep fall in temperatures.

On Thursday, the minimum temperature at Chandigarh was recorded as 3 degree Celsius. (ANI)
