GAYA - Students of Gaya Government Polytechnic set the college building on fire on Saturday, protesting the immediate change of examination centre without prior notice.

Earlier, students were informed that the examination centre would be New Government Polytechnic, which is located in Patna.

But according to the agitated students, the official changed the examination centre to Magadh Engineering College, Gaya without giving any prior notice.

“Earlier we got the admit card with New Government Polytechnic as an examination centre but now when our exams are just about to start they have changed the centre to Magadh Engineering College, Gaya. We did not even get any prior notice about the change,” said Gautam Kumar, student of Gaya Polytechnic.

Brij Mohan Sharma, principal of New Government College said the decision taken by Technical Board is not correct, as students did not get any prior information about the change in examination centre.

“When I was inside my chamber, all these boys came and insisted that whenever we will give examination we’ll give it only at the centre of Patna-13 (New Government Polytechnic) because till now they did not get any written admit card,” said Sharma.

Police was deployed to control the unrest spread on the college premises.
