Jharkhand goes for second phase of Panchayat elections

RANCHI - People cast their votes for the second phase of Panchayat elections here on Monday.

The second phase of polling was held for 11,292 village councils in 71 blocks.

The voters said they expected Jharkhand to at last move towards development.

“The elections will bring development in the area and everything will be good. The public will be happy. My expectations from the result of these polls are that the situation will move towards development and betterment,” said Jamruddin Ansari, a voter.

Due to Elections were held amid tight security, following the Maoists threat to boycott polls. Armed security personnel patrolled the streets and markets.

A total of 59,585 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the first phase of elections.

Counting of votes for the first and second phases will be conducted on Thursday. By Girija Shankar Ojha (ANI)
