Indian Parliament adjournment continues

NEW DELHI - Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon on Monday as opposition MPs disrupted the question hour, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the allocation of 2G telecom spectrum.

Shouting slogans, lawmakers gathered in the well of the Lok Sabha as soon as the Speaker Meira Kumar walked in.

This was the 17th successive sitting in the Lok Sabha when the question hour was not held in the winter session of the Parliament.

The JPC probe has become the main contention between the government and opposition, which has continuously been disturbing the parliamentary sessions for the last two weeks.

Members of Parliament (MPs) have stuck to their demand for a JPC probe into allegations of financial irregularities in the case.

Discussions are due to take place in both houses of the Parliament but arguments from the opposition parties have made it difficult for the session to move forward.

The former Telecom and Information Technology Minister A. Raja has been accused of serious irregularities in the allocation of 2G spectrum licenses, causing losses to the exchequer estimated at Rs 1.76 trillion.

After weeks of demands from opposition parties for his resignation Raja finally quit on November 14. (ANI)
