CHANDIGARH - Four Haryana policemen were Saturday suspended for laxity while escorting the motorcade of Mauritius President Anerood Jugnauth, who attended a function at Bahadurgarh a day earlier, police said.

Jhajjar district police chief Saurabh Singh told IANS that four policemen, including an inspector, were placed under suspension for negligence while escorting Jugnauths Mercedes.

Haryana police sources said that the policemen who were supposed to escort Jugnauths car, which was coming from Delhi, started escorting another Mercedes coming from the same direction.

They moved with the wrong car for several kilometres before realising their mistake, sources said.

“We have suspended four officials, including an inspector. We have also initiated an inquiry to probe this whole matter, Singh said.

Jugnauth was honoured with Ranbir Singh Distinguished Parliamentarian Award Friday at Bhadurgarh, around 50 km from New Delhi. The award carries Rs.100,000, a citation and a momento.
