BARDHMAN - Mob violence broke out in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district after two persons were killed in a road accident on Thursday.

Agitated residents blocked the road and torched a truck and a police vehicle after the coal-laden truck ploughed into two persons riding a motorcycle.

The incident took place on the Asansol-Chittaranjan road.

A large contingent of police was deployed to control the situation.

“Agitated locals got violent and torched the truck. Right now the situation is under control. Fire brigade is also here to manage the fire. The traffic flow has got back to normal,” said Prasun Banerjee, Additional Superintendent of Police, Asansol.

The locals alleged that the speeding truck was carrying coal from illegal mines. By Rik Sundar Sasmal (ANI)
