NEW DELHI - The Central Government is seriously considering the proposal to appoint one development officer in every Panchayat, said Union Minister for Rural Development Dr. C P Joshi here on Thursday.

Addressing the National Conference of State Ministers for Sanitation in New Delhi, the Minister said, “This move is essential for better coordination among other civic authorities for effective implementation of development programmes.”

Dr. Joshi while elaborating his view, stated that the qualification of the Development Officer would be an Master of Business Administration (MBA) or, equivalent to it.

The Minister said the role of the officer in Panchayat will be equivalent to that of a Chief Secretary in a state. In addition to it, there will be one technical officer, one accounts officer and another officer to look after the extension services.

He said that the appointment of these officers have become necessary, as more money is being made available to the grass root institutions directly for development works. The minister said these officers will be responsible for better delivery. (ANI)
