KARACHI - The target killings in Karachi on October 19 were part of an ‘international conspiracy,’ and the ‘forces’ involved in it were the same who assassinated the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson and former Premier, Benazir Bhutto, the party has claimed.

According to Bilawal House spokesperson, the same elements were involved in Tuesday’s murder and mayhem, who had orchestrated suicide bombings during the reception of Benazir Bhutto when she returned to the country three years ago, The News reported.

Those elements had conspired against Benazir and now once again, they were conspiring to undermine the democracy in the country, said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson further said that religious and ethnic terrorists, extremists and anti-democratic forces did not want Pakistan to progress and become prosperous.

Under a planned conspiracy, the anti-democratic forces wanted to target Sindh and especially its capital, Karachi, to pitch the elected political parties against each other through ruthless killings, the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s commercial capital continues to bleed as thirty more people from various ethnicities, including one dozen in a single incident, were killed yesterday, taking the death toll of Karachi target killings to 73 after four consecutive days of violence.

The incidents of killings began after ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed declared October 16 that his party was boycotting the by-polls in Orangi Town.

Despite Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza’s orders to law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security, the situation in the city remains grim. (ANI)
