Bangaladesh arrested UNLF chairman: Pillai

IMPHAL - Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai has said the arrest of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) Chairman, R K Meghen alias Sanayaima, was not done by the Indian authorities but by the Bangladesh authorities.

Pillai arrived in Imphal on Sunday to take part and address two development related seminars.

“He (Meghen) is not arrested by anybody in India. I also read the news, he has been arrested by the Bangladesh authorities. We have no information beyond that,” said Pillai, while addressing the media persons outside the airport today.

Newspaper offices in Imphal received emails about Meghen, who belongs to a Meitei rebel group, was apprehended by a combined team of Bangladeshi intelligence and RAW officials on the outskirts of Dhaka on September 29.

Though officially not declared, it is believed that the Union Home Secretary will have a series of meetings on the law and order issues and on the development issues of the state.(ANI)
