WARDHA - Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre is focusing on the welfare of farmers, women and minorities and in areas like health, education and employment generation.

“Politics has always been a medium of service to weaker sections The Right to Education Act passed by Parliament gives the poorest of poor chance to education. We are coming out with a food security bill, which will give food guarantee to all, especially the poor,” said Sonia Gandhi,

Sonia Gandhi said efforts should be made by all to ensure that the benefits of various central schemes reach the beneficiaries without difficulties, asserting that Central Government’s ‘Bharat Nirman Programme’ is helping in overcoming problem in these sectors.

She further asked the people to be aware of those forces trying to foment divisions in the name of religion and language.

Calling upon the party workers to follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi said the values of brotherhood preached by Father of Nation are relevant even today.

“We have to keep walking on Gandhiji’s principles of sacrifice, brotherhood and non-violence. All our great leaders and party workers shed blood for India’s independence,” said Sonia Gandhi, while addressing a ‘Sadhbhawana rally’ in Sewagram here today, which was part of the concluding ceremony of the ‘Gram to Sewagram’ flag march organised by the Maharashtra unit of Congress.

“This is the sacred land of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave. I salute this sacred land. A weak society lags behind on the path of progress. We have to handle our responsibilities while keeping in mind social commitments,” she added. (ANI)
