PATNA - Ahead of the six-phased polls in Bihar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari started party’s poll campaign here on Wednesday.

Bihar is ruled by a coalition of the Janata Dal (United) and the BJP.

Highlighting the development work undertaken by the incumbent government, Gadkari expressed confidence at a Bharatiya Janata Party- Janata Dal (United)’s victory in the polls.

“For the first time, the people of Bihar are witnessing development and progress in the region. The ruling coalition of the BJP and the JD(U) (Janata Dal-United) has turned negative growth rate into positive,” said Gadkari.

“The issue of scarce electricity has also been resolved. Roads and infrastructure have been developed. And the biggest thing we have accomplished is the restoration of law and order in the state, which had been absent under the previous regime. The people are feeling safe for the first time,” he added.

Gadkari also said Bihar’s ruling alliance was facing no threat from other political factions active in the state.

“The Congress does not have an agenda for development because it has not done anything for the people of Bihar till now. Congress has, in fact, ruined the state, and Lalu Prasad has furthered that cause. Development is associated with the BJP and the JD(U), and this is what has been noticed by the people,” said Gadkari.

The state will elect a new 243-seat assembly in a month-long polling exercise to be held between October 21 to November 20. By Aditya Kumar Jha (ANI)
