Swat operation in charge claims ‘wiping out militants’ in district

MINGORA - Terrorists have been eliminated from Swat in Pakistan, Major General Ashfaq Nadeem, in charge of the operation, has stated.

Inaugurating the newly built Shamozo Landaki Bridge for traffic, Ashfaq said the army had wiped out militancy and eliminated terrorist elements from the Swat district, The News reported.

However, he added that the army would stay in the region till the completion of reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the district.

Construction of roads, bridges, educational institutions, health centres and completion of water and power supply projects were necessary for the rapid development of the area, Ashfaq noted.

The general also urged the people of Swat to keep a close vigil on the terrorists coming from outside the district.

He said the youth should acquire technical skills, adding that presently army was imparting vocational training to 500 youth, and this strength would be increased to 1,000.

Brigadier Saqib and ISPR Swat in-charge Col Arif Mahmood were also present on the occasion. (ANI)
