Jharkhand CM announces one million reward for gold medallist archer Deepika Kumari

RANCHI - Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has announced on Sunday that Deepika Kumari, who won a second Gold medal for archery at the XIX Commonwealth Games, would get rupees one million as reward.
Earlier in the day, Kumari, a resident of Jharkhand, had won her second Gold medal in the women’s recurve archery singles event.
She won her first Gold in the women’s archery team event on Friday.
“She (Deepika) proved her mettle as a brilliant archer. I announce to pay rupees 10 lakh (one million) from the state exchequer as reward to Deepika,” said Munda.
Meanwhile, Deepika’s father, Shiv Narayan Mahato, an auto rickshaw driver , celebrated his daughter’s feat by distributing sweets in his locality.
“We all are celebrating. We are celebrating before Diwali. All the residents of Ratu (locality) are celebrating. It is double delight for us. Today, I talked to my daughter at 8.30 a.m.,” said Mahato.
The Commonwealth Games conclude on Thursday. (ANI)
