10 injured in UN rescue chopper’s crash landing in flood-hit Pak district

DADU - At least 10 people received injuries, when a United Nations (UN) helicopter, having Pakistanis as well as foreigners on board, made a crash landing on water at Manchhar Lake in Pakistan due to a technical fault.

According to a news channel, the UN chopper was engaged in rescue efforts in flood-hit Dadu district in southern province of Pakistan, when it crash-landed, The News reported.

“Due to some technical fault, the helicopter tried to make an emergency landing on an embankment and then it slipped into the water,” Iqbal Memon, a local Pakistani administration official said.

According to preliminary reports, as many as 10 persons, including flood-victims and crewmembers have been hurt in the mishap.

“There were 12 people on board. We’re extremely relieved there were no deaths, but there have been injuries, a UN official said.

“We don’t know the extent of those injuries at the moment. There is a rescue helicopter on the way to pick them up,” he added.

Rescue and relief operations have been kicked off as the wounded people, having been rescued from the wreckage, are being transported to hospital for medical treatment. (ANI)
