SRINAGAR - The walnut farmers here have suffered huge losses due to the incessant rainfall this year.

The rains have blackened the colour of the fruit, which has dropped the quality of the fruit with huge loss in production.

“The areas, where there was heavy rainfall and damped floors, the walnut fruit became black, deteriorating the quality of the fruit,” said Horticulture Department Technical Officer Manzoor Ahmad.

Many other walnut dealers and cultivators expressed similar views saying the continuous rainfall has resulted in less supply of their produce.

“The weather has been such that it has rained every day because of which the fruit has got affected and so has the colour of the fruit. The price of the fruit is fine, but the supply is less,” said Noor-Ud-Din, a walnut dealer.

“There is less production of walnut this year in comparison to the previous years, and especially in comparison to the last two years. Due to the rains we have suffered huge loss,” added another walnut farmer Mohammad Ishtaq.

The entire northern region has faced continuous rainfall this year, which has caused severe damage to many areas and crops. (ANI)
